Welcome to This Month’s Update!

On December 11, 2024, the Kelso C-7 Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting in the school library. Here are the key highlights and updates from the meeting:


Board Meeting Overview

President Liz Glastetter called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. With four board members present, a quorum was established to proceed with the meeting.


Two Minutes of Good

Teachers Anna Wagner (5th Grade Homeroom and Reading/Literature) and Sarah Schubert (6th Grade Homeroom and Science) shared this month’s Two Minutes of Good. Mrs. Wagner shared some of her class’s projects based on the novels they’ve been reading. Meanwhile, Mrs. Schubert talked about her efforts to improve vocabulary in her science classes while encouraging higher-level thinking skills.


Updates & Discussions

Building Update:
Superintendent Dr. Kim Burger shared discussions from her meeting with John Clancy of McKinstry, providing insights into current and future building projects.  The Board is planning for an April 2025 bond issue that will focus on expanding parking, increasing safety, and closing out the lease purchase from 2024.

Safety Update:
The Board reviewed recent safety actions aimed at ensuring a secure learning environment for all students and staff.

Bond Issue & Campaign:
The Bond Steering Committee’s progress was discussed. The finalized bond language will be reviewed at the January Board meeting.

Foster Care Transportation Policy:
The Board approved the Foster Care Transportation Policy and a related Memorandum of Understanding, further supporting students in foster care.


Reports

Principal’s Report:

  • Positive Office Referrals: Recognition for students who exemplify outstanding behavior and academic efforts.

  • Updates on administration and special education initiatives.

Superintendent’s Report:

  • CSIP Tracker/District Report Card: Progress updates and goals.

  • Financial Updates: Key financial highlights to ensure fiscal responsibility for the current fiscal year and a preview of the upcoming year.

  • Superintendent Evaluation: Evaluations were handed out for the performance review process.  

  • Food Service Review: The District is currently undergoing a Food Service Review.  Results will be shared in the January meeting.
